with a grain of rye
I feel there are two words in my life, as well as everyone else's, that seem to define this ongoing battle we are in that help define our longing for the pursuit of happiness: lost and searching.
Lost--the time in your life when you lose your sense of direction and become weary of your journey--is the feeling and state of being, in which you seem to find yourself again, no matter the circumstances. It is ironic how the people who are lost, are actually so close to finding themselves once again. Maybe this is because they have plummeted to the bottom based on their ideal level of where they should be or maybe because they have already experienced an extreme identity crisis, but it seems that when you hit rock bottom you can only create a new you from your shattered pieces. In retrospect, we are all lost, especially because of the contradictory beliefs each of us hold because of the world around us. Therefore, we are all on a continual journey to find ourselves, sometimes we are just distracted from the path and need to refocus.
Searching--the effort we put into the journey of finding ourselves--is the fulfillment of the desires we possess. We strive for success and happiness everyday, which is just as important as actually accomplishing the goals we set because we are making consistent effort to to better our lives. Searching for ourselves and our true happiness is the part of our lives in which we turn a new leaf and start achieving our goals and desires. This search seems to reawaken our discarded day dreams and bring them back to life through the exploration of creativity. Therefore, this could be why the lost you is the real you because once you put aside the idealistic expectations and standards forced upon you, you can truly liberate yourself and discover who you really are. So maybe we should all get lost, and start the search all over again.
I am Gabe Rye, from Memphis, TN. I started writing journal entries because I was inspired at a young age to pursue writing to share my thoughts and feelings on the changing world around us. Attitude is everything, and changing your attitude and mentality is a journey I have been taking since the start of my writing. I desire to become a better contributing member of society, as to also better my faith journey through this social platform.
